Carnivals and Festivals

Colombia has a very busy calendar of carnivals, festivals and fairs. We can recommend some of the most important national celebrations and we invite you, once you are here, to add a few more pages to your diary about the holidays in Colombia.

If you like carnivals and popular celebrations there are many options such as participating in the Carnaval de Blancos y Negros in the city of Pasto, exorcising demons in the Carnaval del Diablo in Riosucio, enjoying yourself in the Feria de Cali and the Feria de Manizales, dancing until sunrise in the Carnaval de Barranquilla, watching the sunset during the celebrations of San Pedro and San Juan in Huila and Tolima, or taking a walk through an immense garden in the Feria de las Flores in Medellín.

If you are a music lover, we propose the Festival de la Canción Llanera in Villavicencio; the Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata in Valledupar; the Festival de Música del Pacífico Petronio Álvarez in Cali; the Festival de Mono Núñez in Ginebra, Valle, and the Festival de Música de Cartagena (Cartagena Music Festival). Likewise, we remind you that in many of the cities there are festivals and concerts of pop, rock, salsa and classical music events continually being offered.

Also, if you are a fan of the performing arts, a movie buff or an avid reader, you will surely enjoy internationally renowned cultural events organized around these arts such as Cartagena's Festival Internacional de Cine (Cartagena Film Festival) and Hay Festival, and Bogotá's Feria Internacional del Libro (Bogotá Book Fair) and Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro (Ibero-American Theater Festival).

Briefly said, from now on you can be sure that in Colombia you will always have something to celebrate with friends and strangers. At the same time you will have many opportunities to meet people who you can practice your Spanish with.
